History and reference evolution

Rolex introduced the Pearlmaster name in 1992. Those first watches came in 29 mm and 34 mm sizes, always in gold and always gem-set. In effect, the Pearlmaster was the jewellery branch of the Datejust family.

The 39 mm generation

In 2015, Rolex enlarged the line with the Pearlmaster 39. The Pearlmaster 39 86348 is the yellow gold reference with a sapphire bezel. It was also the first Rolex to carry calibre 3235, a movement that later powered the Datejust 41 and the Submariner Date. So the Pearlmaster 39 has a small but real place in Rolex's technical history.

The 86348 had no direct predecessor and no successor. Earlier Pearlmasters were smaller and used older calibres. Consequently, the 39 mm case made the line wearable on a much wider range of wrists.

SABLV and SAJOR

Two bezel colourways cover most Pearlmaster 86348s on the market. The SABLV has 48 baguette sapphires running from blue into green. It pairs with an olive green dial, diamond hour markers and diamond-set Arabic 6 and 9. The SAJOR instead runs from yellow into orange, usually with brown or paved dials. We could not confirm exactly when each colourway launched.

Leaving the catalogue

Several dealers report that the Pearlmaster disappeared from rolex.com around 2022. Rolex made no announcement, so the date is approximate. Even so, the effect is clear. There is no new Pearlmaster 86348 to buy, and every purchase now happens on the secondary market.

Bands reflect asking and achieved prices from 3 public market sources in October 2026, rounded. Retail for comparison: n/a. Prices move; use them as a sense-check, not a quote.

An excellent example with papers trades at about US$70,000 – US$85,000, roughly RM286,000–347,000. By comparison, Rolex Certified Pre-Owned dealers asked US$85,000 (SABLV), US$90,000 and US$94,950 (SAJOR) in 2026. We have not confirmed the last US list price from two sources. One dealer quoted about US$77,250 for the SABLV, so treat that only as a rough guide.

What moves the price of this reference

Originality of the stones comes first. Any replaced or non-Rolex stone cuts the value severely, often more than heavy wear. After that, the colourway matters, since SABLV and SAJOR attract different buyers. Then comes the sales channel. A CPO watch carries a Rolex warranty, but it also carries a large premium over private sales.

Papers and condition finish the picture. A full set with the warranty card is essential at this price. The five-piece Pearlmaster bracelet also stretches and wears, and soft gold shows it. Discontinued status adds some scarcity, though the buyer pool is small.

Where to check prices

Because the market is thin, use several sources together. Rolex CPO listings set the ceiling. Private dealer asks in Singapore and Hong Kong are usually lower. Marketplace listings show the range, but filter by suffix. Auction results matter more here than for most Rolexes, since a large share of gem-set pieces sell that way. In Malaysia, an 86348 rarely appears locally, so expect to buy across the border. See our used Rolex prices guide for how we build these bands.

When a price is too good to be true

Our lowest band, for polished or aftermarket pieces, starts at about US$52,000. Therefore a full-set Pearlmaster 86348 offered below roughly US$50,000, about RM204,000, is suspect. The likeliest explanation is replaced stones. The next is a Datejust dressed up as a Pearlmaster.

Genuine vs replica: how to check an 86348

With the Pearlmaster 39 86348, the bigger risk is not a full fake. Instead, it is a genuine watch with altered gems, or another model posing as a Pearlmaster. Your checks should therefore start with the bezel and bracelet.

The sapphire bezel

All 48 baguettes should be precisely cut and calibrated. Each stone should step gently into the next colour. Look for an uneven jump in tone, a stone sitting proud, or one that moves when pressed. Any of these suggests a replacement or a fake. Also look at the setting gold between stones. It should be clean and even, with no tool marks.

The bracelet

The Pearlmaster bracelet has five-piece rounded links, unique to this line, with a concealed Crownclasp. A Datejust with a Jubilee or President bracelet and an aftermarket gem bezel is not a Pearlmaster 86348. Check the link count across the bracelet first.

Dial, crystal and case

The diamond hour markers sit in gold chatons. Rolex uses high-grade stones, so they should look clear and bright under a loupe. Then check the Cyclops over the date.

Genuine: cyclops magnification

2828approx. 2.5x
  • Date fills the lens edge to edge
  • Numerals stay sharp right to the lens rim
  • Lens sits centred over the date window

Warning signs

2828approx. 1.5x
  • Date looks small, with a visible margin
  • Lens slightly off-centre or bubbled
  • Strong blue anti-glare tint on top of the lens
The 86348's Cyclops should magnify the date about 2.5x so it fills the lens. A weak lens is common on replicas of gem-set Datejusts.

Above 6 o'clock, the crystal should carry a small, dotted coronet. The rehaut repeats ROLEX ROLEX, with the serial at 6.

Genuine: laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock

visible only with a loupe at an angle
  • Made of tiny dots, hard to find without a loupe
  • Sits in the crystal just above the 6 o'clock marker
  • Present on most Rolex crystals from the early 2000s onward

Warning signs

obvious to the naked eye
  • Bold and frosted, easy to spot head-on
  • Solid lines instead of a dot matrix
  • Off-centre, or placed on a reference/era that would not have it
On a genuine 86348, the laser-etched coronet in the crystal is faint and hard to see. A crisp, frosted crown visible at arm's length is a warning sign.

Finally, turn it over. The 86348 has a solid gold caseback with no window. With the bracelet removed, you should find 750 and Swiss hallmarks between the lugs.

Genuine: caseback

plain, fluted screw-down back
  • Solid Oystersteel or gold, fluted edge for the case wrench
  • No engraving on most models (some are factory-engraved, e.g. Sea-Dweller and Deepsea)
  • Display backs are factory-fitted only on certain models (e.g. some Daytona, 1908, Land-Dweller)

Warning signs

see-through or engraved back
  • Exhibition window on a model Rolex makes with a solid back
  • Stickers or decorative engravings sold as 'factory'
  • Back that turns too easily or sits proud of the case
The 86348 has a plain, solid yellow gold caseback. A display back, or engraving presented as factory work, means the case is not original.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

A watchmaker can open the case and verify calibre 3235, its blue Parachrom hairspring and Rolex finishing. Meanwhile, a gemmologist familiar with Rolex work can assess the sapphires and diamonds. Our real vs fake Rolex guide covers the watch checks, and our box and papers guide explains what a full set should include.

Who the 86348 suits, and the alternatives

The Pearlmaster 86348 suits a buyer who wants colour and gems without a fully iced look. The case and bracelet stay plain gold, so it reads as jewellery only at the bezel. It wears comfortably on most wrists, men's or women's.

If you want the structure without the stones, a gold Datejust is the logical step; start with our Datejust collection. For a gold dress watch with a day display, look at the Day-Date 40 228238. Smaller wrists may prefer the Lady-Datejust range. For background on the whole line, see our Pearlmaster overview.

Servicing a gem-set Rolex

A gem-set watch needs a careful service. Rolex service centres can check the setting, tighten loose stones and, where needed, replace them with genuine Rolex stones. That keeps the watch original in Rolex's eyes. However, a local jeweller resetting stones does not, and that work usually hurts value.

So keep every service receipt. If Rolex replaced a stone or a bezel, the paperwork proves it was done properly. Also expect a longer turnaround than for a plain gold watch, since stone work adds time. Finally, ask for the case to be cleaned rather than polished. Polishing near a gem-set bezel risks the soft gold that holds the stones.

86348 FAQ

What do SABLV and SAJOR mean on the 86348?

They are suffixes describing the gem-set bezel. SABLV is a blue-to-green gradient of sapphires, paired with an olive green dial, diamond hour markers and diamond-set Arabic 6 and 9. SAJOR is a yellow-to-orange gradient, found with brown or diamond-paved dials. Both use the same yellow gold case, bracelet and calibre 3235.

How much is a Pearlmaster 39 86348 worth in 2026?

Private-sale prices for an excellent example with papers run about US$70,000–85,000, roughly RM286,000–347,000. Rolex Certified Pre-Owned asks are higher, at about US$85,000–95,000. Unworn full sets can reach the top of that range, while watches with replaced stones fall sharply. Few trade, so expect wide gaps between asks.

Was the 86348 the first Rolex with calibre 3235?

Yes. The Pearlmaster 39 launched in 2015 as the first Rolex to use calibre 3235, before it spread to the Datejust 41 and the Submariner Date. It offers a 70-hour reserve, the Chronergy escapement and Superlative Chronometer accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing.

Can I buy a Pearlmaster 39 new in Malaysia?

Not through official channels. Rolex no longer lists the Pearlmaster, and dealer sources say it left rolex.com around 2022. We could not confirm a Malaysian list price for the 86348. Today you buy one from Singapore or Hong Kong specialists, through Rolex Certified Pre-Owned dealers, or at auction.

How do I know the sapphires on an 86348 are original?

Check that all 48 baguettes step smoothly through the colour gradient, with no stone noticeably lighter or darker than its neighbours. Each should sit level and tight. Then ask for an inspection by Rolex or a gemmologist familiar with Rolex setting. Replaced stones are common on gem-set watches and cut value heavily.
