What defines the Submariner
The Submariner is Rolex's dive watch, first sold in 1953. In addition, every modern version shares a 300 m Oyster case, a screw-down crown and a unidirectional 60-minute bezel. Today, therefore, all current models use the 41 mm case introduced in 2020, with a 70-hour calibre. So the differences come down to date or no date, bezel colour and metal.
That simplicity is why Submariner prices are so closely watched. The steel models are rationed at dealers, so they trade above list. However, two-tone and gold versions are easier to buy and sell below it. In this guide we cover all ten references in our dataset, current and discontinued.

Three generations in brief
First, the five-digit era ended with the 16610, made from 1988 to 2010 with an aluminium bezel and slim lugs. In 2010 the 116610LN brought ceramic and the broad "Maxi" case; then the no-date 114060 followed in 2012. Next, in 2020, the 41 mm family arrived with slimmer lugs and 70-hour movements. Then, in 2026, Rolex dropped the white gold 126619LB Cookie Monster. For the older-versus-newer debate, read 5-digit vs 6-digit Submariner.
Which Submariner to buy
For value retention, steel still wins. Specifically, the 126610LN is the most liquid, while the 126610LV asks slightly more. Meanwhile, for the lowest entry price, the 124060 is cheapest new and holds its premium well. Our Date vs No-Date comparison covers that choice.
By contrast, two-tone and gold are easiest at retail. They also offer real discounts when bought used. The 126613 trades around or below list, and the 126618 roughly 10 to 15 percent under. Therefore, if you do not need steel, the used market is the cheapest way in. See new vs used Submariner for the arithmetic, and Submariner vs GMT-Master II if travel matters.
Buying a Submariner in Malaysia
Malaysian list prices sit slightly above US list converted at 4.08. For example, the 126610LN is RM49,100 locally against about RM46,300 converted. Even so, authorised dealers in Kuala Lumpur allocate steel Subs much as dealers elsewhere do. Meanwhile, the grey market runs through local dealers, Mudah, the Lowyat forum and Singapore. So compare everything in ringgit, and insist on the warranty card. Our used Rolex price guide explains how we build each band.
Authentication notes for every Submariner
The Submariner is the most counterfeited Rolex, so checks matter. Across the 41 mm models, check the engraved rehaut with the serial at 6, the coronet between SWISS and MADE, and 120 clean bezel clicks. By contrast, older 16610s need different checks, such as tritium lume and drilled lugs. Our real vs fake Rolex guide covers each era in detail.
