History and reference evolution

Rolex has offered a steel-and-gold Submariner for decades. The aluminium-bezel 16613 gave way to the ceramic 116613 pair. Then, in 2020, the Submariner 126613LB and 126613LN replaced them. The new pair arrived with the rest of the 41 mm family.

What the 2020 update changed

Like the steel models, the case grew to 41 mm and lost its broad Maxi lugs. Its bracelet now meets the case at 21 mm. Inside, the calibre 3235 replaced the 3135, raising the reserve from 48 to 70 hours. The date still jumps instantly, and it can be set quickly through the crown.

The gold details carried over. Hands and marker surrounds are yellow gold. Bezel numerals are coated in gold rather than platinum. Meanwhile, the blue dial keeps its sunburst finish, so it shifts from navy to bright royal blue in sunlight.

Where the Bluesy name comes from

Collectors used "Bluesy" for earlier blue two-tone Subs, and the nickname simply moved on. Rolex never uses it. When you search listings, therefore, search by reference rather than nickname. "Bluesy" also gets attached, wrongly, to the solid-gold 126618LB.

Why the changes matter for value

The update did not create a shortage. Instead, Rolex increased Rolesor list prices along with gold. So the Submariner 126613LB arrived at a high list and met softer demand. As a result, it now trades around or slightly below list. For buyers, that means a nearly new watch at a discount, which the steel models never offer.

Bands reflect asking and achieved prices from 3 public market sources in October 2026, rounded. Retail for comparison: US$19,450. Prices move; use them as a sense-check, not a quote.

Both versions list at US$19,450 in the US and RM84,200 in Malaysia. The market band for an excellent full set sits from list down to about 13 percent under it. Unworn examples hover around list. That makes the Submariner 126613LB one of the few Submariners you can buy used for less than new.

What moves the price of a Submariner 126613LB

Dial colour comes first. The blue LB typically asks a little more than the black LN. The gap is a few hundred dollars, not thousands.

Gold wear is next, and it matters more than on steel. Yellow gold is soft. The centre links and bezel edge pick up dents and scratches. If those surfaces have been polished, they lose crisp edges and some metal. Dealers price that into the lower bands.

Completeness, card date and stickers then work as they do on any modern Rolex. Bracelet stretch is rare at this age, but inspect the gold centre links for dings. Finally, watch out for Rolex Certified Pre-Owned pieces. Authorised dealers ask more for them than independents do, in exchange for a fresh two-year Rolex guarantee.

Service and refinishing

A Rolex service on a Submariner 126613LB usually includes light refinishing unless you ask otherwise. On gold, that removes more metal than on steel. So if the watch is in good shape, tell the service centre to skip polishing. Also, a dented gold centre link is a replacement part, not a quick fix, and it is priced like gold. Our service and value guide explains how this affects resale.

Where to check prices

Begin with rolex.com, which lists both currencies. Then check grey-dealer asks. Many dealers now list the 126613LB below retail, which is the clearest sign of where the market sits. Chrono24 asks give a broad range. Search both 126613LB and 126613LN, since sellers sometimes mislabel the suffix.

The Malaysian angle

The ringgit numbers favour the used market here. An excellent set converts to roughly RM69,000 to RM80,000. That compares with RM84,200 at a Malaysian dealer. In addition, two-tone Subs are often available new without a long wait. So a local buyer can choose between a quick new purchase with full guarantee and a used one saving several thousand ringgit.

When a price is too good to be true

Polished examples with replaced parts still ask about US$13,000. So a full set under roughly US$12,500 (about RM51,000) is suspect. Two-tone fakes are common because gold plating hides a cheap base metal. A low price plus a reluctant seller is a familiar pattern.

Genuine vs replica: how to check a 126613LB

On the Submariner 126613LB, the gold is the first line of defence. After that, check the same details as a steel 41 mm Sub.

Is the gold solid?

On a genuine Submariner 126613LB, the bezel, crown and centre links are solid 18 ct yellow gold. Look at edges and deep scratches. Real gold shows gold all the way through. By contrast, plated fakes reveal grey metal where the plating wears. Also compare tones: the bezel, crown and links should match exactly.

Genuine: clasp and bracelet machining

sharp, even edges; deep, clean engraving
  • Crisp transitions between brushed and polished surfaces
  • Clasp blade and logo cleanly milled, not stamped-looking
  • Bracelet links tight, quiet, no rattle; screws not pins on modern pieces

Warning signs

soft edges, wavy or shallow engraving
  • Polishing bleeds over brushed edges
  • Fuzzy logo, uneven font, or stamped-in look
  • Loose links, sharp burrs inside the clasp, cheap spring-loaded feel
On a genuine 126613LB bracelet, the gold centre links meet the steel outer links cleanly, and the clasp shows crisp brushed and polished zones with no plating wear.

Dial and bezel

The royal blue dial has a sunburst that moves with the light. A flat blue, or a purple cast, suggests a fake or refinished dial. Hands and marker surrounds are yellow gold, matching the gold-coated bezel numerals. The bezel clicks 120 times, one way only.

Crystal, Cyclops and engravings

The Cyclops should magnify the date about 2.5 times. A dotted coronet should be etched in the crystal above 6. The rehaut repeats "ROLEX" with the serial at 6. Then check the printed coronet between SWISS and MADE.

Genuine: laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock

visible only with a loupe at an angle
  • Made of tiny dots, hard to find without a loupe
  • Sits in the crystal just above the 6 o'clock marker
  • Present on most Rolex crystals from the early 2000s onward

Warning signs

obvious to the naked eye
  • Bold and frosted, easy to spot head-on
  • Solid lines instead of a dot matrix
  • Off-centre, or placed on a reference/era that would not have it
The 126613LB crystal carries a faint dot-matrix coronet just above 6 o'clock; a bold or frosted etch is a warning sign.

Genuine: cyclops magnification

2828approx. 2.5x
  • Date fills the lens edge to edge
  • Numerals stay sharp right to the lens rim
  • Lens sits centred over the date window

Warning signs

2828approx. 1.5x
  • Date looks small, with a visible margin
  • Lens slightly off-centre or bubbled
  • Strong blue anti-glare tint on top of the lens
The Cyclops on a genuine 126613LB magnifies the date about 2.5x, so the numeral fills the lens.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

Opened up, a genuine example shows a 3235 with a blue Parachrom hairspring. They can also check the gold parts for hallmarks and correct part numbers. The plain caseback should come off cleanly, with matching gaskets. Finally, a timing check confirms the movement runs within specification. Our real vs fake Rolex guide walks through each step.

Who the 126613LB suits, and the alternatives

The Submariner 126613LB suits a buyer who wants warmth and colour in a dive watch. It also suits someone who values availability over resale premiums. In addition, two-tone is easier to wear daily than full gold, and far less conspicuous.

If you want steel, the 126610LN is the obvious choice. If you want full gold, step up to the yellow gold 126618. Two-tone buyers should also consider the GMT-Master II 126713GRNR. Our materials guide explains Rolesor, and Yacht-Master vs Submariner covers another mixed-metal route.

Wearing a two-tone Sub

The watch weighs more than steel, because of the gold links. Most owners like that. However, the gold scratches more readily. If that bothers you, choose the black LN, which hides marks better. Our used Rolex price guide shows how two-tone and steel compare on value.

Submariner 126613LB FAQ

What is the Rolex Bluesy?

Bluesy is the collector nickname for the two-tone Submariner Date with a blue dial and blue bezel. The name has followed several generations. Today it means the 126613LB, in Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold.

Is the 126613LB worth more than the 126613LN?

Usually by a little. Both list at US$19,450, but the blue Bluesy tends to ask a few hundred dollars more on the secondary market. The black LN is quieter and sometimes easier to find at a good price.

How much is the 126613LB in Malaysia?

Rolex Malaysia lists both versions at RM84,200. An excellent pre-owned set converts to roughly RM69,000 to RM80,000 at 4.08 MYR per USD, which is below the local list price.

Why does the two-tone Submariner sell below retail?

Demand for Rolesor sports models has cooled, while list prices kept rising with gold. Steel Subs are rationed; two-tone ones are easier to buy new. As a result, the used market has no shortage premium to support it.

Is the gold on the 126613 solid or plated?

Solid. The bezel, the winding crown and the centre bracelet links are 18 ct yellow gold. The case middle and outer links are Oystersteel. Plating that wears through to grey metal means the watch is fake.

Can you buy a 126613LB at an authorised dealer without a wait?

Often, yes, or with a short wait. Two-tone Submariners are among the easier sports models to buy new in 2026. Availability varies by dealer and city, so ask in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore before paying a grey-market price.
