History and reference evolution

The time-only Submariner has a long lineage. The ref. 5513 ran for decades, then the 14060 and 14060M followed. In 2012 the 114060 brought ceramic. Rolex launched the Submariner 124060 in September 2020, alongside the 126610 family.

What the Submariner 124060 changed

Three changes matter. First, the case grew from 40 to 41 mm. Yet the lugs became much slimmer. The 114060 had broad "Maxi" lugs and heavy crown guards. By contrast, the new case tapers like the old five-digit models. As a result, many owners find it looks smaller on the wrist.

Second, the bracelet widened to 21 mm at the lugs. That keeps the proportions balanced. However, it also means 20 mm straps from a 114060 will not fit. Strap collectors should note that before trading up.

Third, and most useful day to day, the movement changed. The old 3130 ran for 48 hours. The 3230 runs for 70 hours. It adds a Chronergy escapement and a blue Parachrom hairspring. Rolex also certifies it to −2/+2 seconds a day after casing. In practice, a watch left off on Friday evening still runs on Monday.

Dial details that date it

The 2020 dials added a tiny coronet between "SWISS" and "MADE" at 6 o'clock. That one mark separates a 124060 dial from a 114060 dial. The text block at 6 has four lines. Notably, none of them says "DATE".

Why the changes matter for value

The longer reserve and slimmer case explain the gap. A pre-owned Submariner 124060 asks about US$1,500 more than a similar 114060. Still, the older watch is a credible value play. So each reference caps the other. See our Submariner 114060 page for the older model.

Bands reflect asking and achieved prices from 2 public market sources in October 2026, rounded. Retail for comparison: US$10,050. Prices move; use them as a sense-check, not a quote.

Rolex lists the Submariner 124060 at US$10,050 in the US and RM43,600 in Malaysia. That is about US$1,300 below the black Submariner Date. It is therefore the cheapest Submariner by a clear margin.

What moves the price of this reference

Completeness counts for more here than on older models. Buyers weigh a used 124060 against a new one from a dealer. So the dated card, box and tags are expected, not a bonus. Cards dated 2024 to 2026 carry years of Rolex guarantee. Those watches top each band.

Protective stickers on the caseback and clasp add a clear premium. However, check the clasp for scuffs before you believe "unworn". Bracelet condition matters too. A shortened bracelet without its spare links is harder to resell later.

Polishing is the other big deduction. The slim lugs have sharp satin-to-polish edges. Once a polisher softens them, buyers discount the case. Finally, Rolex's tariff-driven US price rises in 2025 and 2026 lifted the market floor. Used prices follow list over time.

Box, papers and the warranty card

Since 2020, Rolex has issued a plastic warranty card with the serial, model number and sale date. Check that all three match the watch and the dealer stamp. A card from a Malaysian dealer carries no premium, but it does make a future warranty claim straightforward. Our box and papers guide explains what a complete 124060 set should contain.

Where to check prices

Start with the dealer list price as your anchor. Then compare three other sources. Grey dealers publish asking prices that include margin and often a dealer warranty. Marketplaces such as Chrono24 show many listings. However, those are asks, not sales. Auction results are real hammer prices, although no-date Subs rarely make headline lots.

In Malaysia, compare listings on Mudah or the Lowyat forum with Singapore dealer prices. Convert at the current rate. Malaysian papers do not add value over Singapore papers. That said, a local card does simplify warranty work in Kuala Lumpur.

When a Submariner 124060 price is too good to be true

Even a polished example with replaced parts asks about US$9,800 – US$11,300. So treat any full set under roughly US$9,000 (about RM37,000) as suspect. It is likely a fake, a stolen watch or a deposit scam. Walk away unless you can inspect it in person.

Genuine vs replica: how to check a 124060

The no-date layout makes fakes a little easier to build. There is no date wheel or Cyclops to calibrate. Consequently, focus on the case, bezel and movement.

Engravings and the rehaut

The inner ring repeats "ROLEX" all the way round. The serial number is engraved at 6 o'clock. The reference sits between the lugs at 12, under the bracelet. Check that the serial matches the card exactly. Our serial number guide shows where each number lives.

Genuine: rehaut engraving alignment

markers on the minute track
  • Each engraved crown and letter lines up with its minute marker
  • Engraving is crisp, even in depth, and readable at 12 o'clock
  • Serial number engraved on the rehaut at 6 on modern pieces

Warning signs

markers drift off-track
  • Letters drift between markers as they go around the ring
  • Shallow, sandy-looking or uneven engraving
  • Serial at 6 printed rather than engraved, or wrong format
On a genuine Submariner 124060, the engraved rehaut lines up with the minute track, and the serial at 6 o'clock is cut, not printed.

Bezel, crystal and dial text

The black Cerachrom bezel turns one way only. It should give 120 crisp clicks with no back-play. Its numerals are coated in platinum, so they read grey-white rather than stark white. Next, tilt the crystal under a loupe. Just above 6 o'clock, a faint dotted coronet should appear. Then find the small coronet between "SWISS" and "MADE".

Genuine: bezel action and alignment

120 clicks
  • Divers' bezels: 120 firm, evenly spaced clicks, one direction only
  • Pearl or triangle lands exactly on 12 at every full click
  • No back-play or wobble when pressed

Warning signs

60 clicks
  • Fewer or mushy clicks, or it turns both ways
  • Triangle stops just short of or past 12
  • Gritty feel and a hollow, high-pitched sound
The 124060 bezel clicks 120 times per turn, in one direction, with the pip landing exactly on 12 at each full rotation.

Caseback, clasp and running time

The caseback is plain, solid and screwed down. There is no window and no movement engraving. Any display back is aftermarket. Similarly, the Glidelock should extend in roughly 2 mm steps, up to about 20 mm. It should then close with a firm snap.

Genuine: laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock

visible only with a loupe at an angle
  • Made of tiny dots, hard to find without a loupe
  • Sits in the crystal just above the 6 o'clock marker
  • Present on most Rolex crystals from the early 2000s onward

Warning signs

obvious to the naked eye
  • Bold and frosted, easy to spot head-on
  • Solid lines instead of a dot matrix
  • Off-centre, or placed on a reference/era that would not have it
The coronet in a 124060 crystal is a faint dot matrix above 6 o'clock. A bold, frosted etch is a warning sign.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

A watchmaker should find a calibre 3230 inside. Look for the blue Parachrom hairspring and the Chronergy escapement. Clones often use a modified movement dressed to look similar. Under magnification, the finishing and bridge engraving usually give it away. Also ask for a timing check. As a home test, wind it fully and leave it still. It should run for roughly three days. Our real vs fake Rolex guide covers every check in order.

Who the 124060 suits, and the alternatives

The Submariner 124060 suits a buyer who wants a steel Sub and nothing extra. The appeal is symmetry, since nothing interrupts the 3 o'clock marker. It also suits anyone who rotates watches, because there is no date to reset.

If you want the date, the Submariner Date 126610LN costs about US$1,300 more and wears the same. We weigh them in Submariner Date vs No-Date. For a second time zone, read Submariner vs GMT-Master II. On a tighter budget, see new vs used Submariner first.

Living with a Submariner 124060

Day to day, the watch is easy company. At 12.5 mm thick it slides under most shirt cuffs. The Glidelock lets you add a few millimetres on a hot afternoon in Kuala Lumpur, then close it up again indoors. Because there is no quickset date, the crown gets unscrewed less often. That, in turn, means less wear on the crown tube and seals.

The black Cerachrom bezel shrugs off the knocks that scarred older aluminium inserts. However, the polished centre links of the bracelet do pick up hairlines. Most owners accept that rather than polish them away, since polishing costs value at resale.

Submariner 124060 FAQ

What size is the Submariner 124060?

The case is 41 mm wide and about 12.5 mm thick, with a 21 mm lug width. Because the lugs were slimmed in 2020, it wears smaller than the 40 mm 114060. It suits most wrists from about 16 cm upward.

How much is the 124060 in Malaysia?

Rolex lists it at RM43,600 in Malaysia, against US$10,050 in the US. An excellent pre-owned full set asks roughly RM52,000 to RM59,000 at 4.08 MYR per USD. Our used Rolex price guide explains how the bands are built.

Is the 124060 hard to buy at retail?

It is easier than the Submariner Date, but rarely a walk-in purchase. Most dealers still favour clients with a purchase history. A wait of a few months is common. The grey-market premium is, in effect, the price of skipping that queue.

Does the Submariner 124060 hold its value?

Yes, better than most Rolex models. A complete, lightly worn example asks roughly 27 to 44 percent over US list in October 2026. However, that premium has narrowed since 2022, so expect it to keep value rather than gain it.

Is the 124060 a good first Rolex?

For many buyers it is the obvious choice. It is the cheapest Submariner, and there is no date to reset after a weekend off the wrist. Our first Rolex guide sets it against the Explorer and Oyster Perpetual.

How often does a 124060 need servicing?

Rolex suggests roughly ten years between services for this generation. The guarantee runs five years from the card date. If you swim with it, a pressure test every couple of years is cheap insurance.
