History and reference evolution
For almost seven decades, every GMT-Master had its crown at 3 o'clock. Left-handed owners simply adapted, or wore the watch on the "wrong" wrist. So when Rolex launched the Sprite 126720VTNR at Watches & Wonders 2022, it was a genuine first for the line.
A mirrored movement, not a rotated dial
The simple way to make a left-handed watch is to turn the movement 180 degrees. That would put the date at 9 but also turn the dial upside down, so Rolex did not do it. Instead, calibre 3285 was reconfigured for the mirrored layout. The date wheel was arranged to show through a window at 9, and the crown tube moved to the left flank. As a result, the dial reads normally, with the coronet at 12.
Green and black
The other first was the bezel. Rolex had never used green on a GMT-Master II insert before. The Sprite 126720VTNR pairs green on the daytime half with black on the night half, plus a green GMT hand. The reference suffix VTNR comes from the French vert and noir.
Two bracelets from the start
Unlike the Pepsi and Batman, the Sprite 126720VTNR launched on both bracelets at once. The Oyster is -0001 and the Jubilee is -0002. Then, in 2025, Rolex extended the idea to gold with the white-gold 126729VTNR, which adds a green ceramic dial. For value, that matters in one way: the steel Sprite is no longer the only lefty GMT, but it remains the affordable one.

| Polished or aftermarket parts | Soft case edges, replaced dial/bezel/bracelet, or non-Rolex parts | US$13,000 – US$15,000 | RM53,000 – RM61,000 |
Bands reflect asking and achieved prices from 4 public market sources in October 2026, rounded. Retail for comparison: US$12,300. Prices move; use them as a sense-check, not a quote.
What moves the price of this reference
The left-handed layout sets the ceiling. Fewer buyers want a crown on the left, so the Sprite 126720VTNR carries a smaller premium than the Pepsi or the grey-bezel steel model. In fact, it sells for less pre-owned than the Batman even though its US list is higher, at US$12,300 against US$11,800.
Within that ceiling, the bracelet matters. A 2026-dated Jubilee set asks the most, while a 2022 Oyster with honest wear sits lowest. Launch-year 2022 examples do not carry a premium yet, because the market has not decided that the first year is special.
Finally, inspect the left flank. On a lefty, the crown guards sit on the side that faces your hand on a left wrist and your body on a right wrist. In practice, they collect more knocks than on a right-handed GMT. Dents or heavy polishing there pull the price down.
From launch frenzy to steady premium
In 2022, early buyers paid wild premiums for the novelty. Those prices softened as more pieces reached the market. Since then, the Sprite 126720VTNR has held a fairly steady 35% to 55% above list. As of October 2026, dealer asks run about US$16,500 to US$21,800, with Jubilee sets at the top.
Where to check prices
Malaysian official retail is RM53,400 for the Oyster and RM54,350 for the Jubilee. Because the buyer pool is narrower, it is still worth registering interest with an official retailer. On the grey market, Kuala Lumpur asks around RM69,500 to RM72,000 sit near the international excellent band once converted. Check auction results too, though the Sprite appears less often than the Pepsi. The used Rolex prices guide explains how to weigh each source.
When a price is too good to be true
Watch-only Sprite 126720VTNR examples in good condition start around US$15,000. So a full set below about US$14,000, or roughly RM57,000, is not a bargain; it is a warning. A price close to the RM53,400 retail figure from a private seller is equally suspicious. Ask why someone would sell below what dealers will pay them.
Genuine vs replica: how to check a 126720VTNR
The lefty layout is a gift for authentication, because it is hard to fake properly. Start with the checks below. Then go through our real vs fake Rolex guide for the full process.
Everything on the left
A genuine Sprite 126720VTNR has the crown, crown guards, date window and Cyclops all on the 9 o'clock side. Any example with the date at 3 is fake, full stop. Cheaper fakes sometimes use a rotated right-handed movement, which leaves telltale signs: the date numerals read oddly or the dial layout looks crowded on one side. Compare the dial carefully with official Rolex images.
Genuine: cyclops magnification
- Date fills the lens edge to edge
- Numerals stay sharp right to the lens rim
- Lens sits centred over the date window
Warning signs
- Date looks small, with a visible margin
- Lens slightly off-centre or bubbled
- Strong blue anti-glare tint on top of the lens
Green that matches
The green half of the insert and the green GMT hand should share the same deep shade. Many replicas show a brighter, more yellowish green on the bezel. Also, the insert is a single ceramic piece. The colour boundary at the 6 and 18 hour marks should be crisp, with no seam. A full turn in either direction should produce 24 firm clicks without wobble.
Engravings and paperwork
On the inner bezel ring, the serial appears at 6 o'clock among the engraved ROLEX lettering. Rolex also engraves the reference between the 12 o'clock lugs and repeats the serial between the 6 o'clock lugs. The warranty card should show 126720VTNR, a matching serial and the correct bracelet suffix.
Genuine: rehaut engraving alignment
- Each engraved crown and letter lines up with its minute marker
- Engraving is crisp, even in depth, and readable at 12 o'clock
- Serial number engraved on the rehaut at 6 on modern pieces
Warning signs
- Letters drift between markers as they go around the ring
- Shallow, sandy-looking or uneven engraving
- Serial at 6 printed rather than engraved, or wrong format
Genuine: caseback
- Solid Oystersteel or gold, fluted edge for the case wrench
- No engraving on most models (some are factory-engraved, e.g. Sea-Dweller and Deepsea)
- Display backs are factory-fitted only on certain models (e.g. some Daytona, 1908, Land-Dweller)
Warning signs
- Exhibition window on a model Rolex makes with a solid back
- Stickers or decorative engravings sold as 'factory'
- Back that turns too easily or sits proud of the case
What only a watchmaker can confirm
The mirrored calibre 3285 is the strongest proof that a Sprite 126720VTNR is genuine. With the caseback off, a watchmaker can confirm the correct movement, the blue Parachrom hairspring and the date mechanism set for 9 o'clock. This is also where an adapted clone movement gives itself away. In Malaysia, arrange this check at the Kuala Lumpur service centre or with a reputable independent before final payment.
Who the 126720VTNR suits, and the alternatives
The obvious buyer is a right-wrist wearer. For you, the Sprite 126720VTNR is the only steel GMT-Master II that sits correctly. It also suits anyone who likes green and wants a GMT that looks different from the usual Pepsi and Batman.
Wrist fit and daily use
On a right wrist, the crown sits away from the hand, so it never presses into skin when you type or drive. The 40 mm case suits wrists from roughly 16 cm upwards, and the Jubilee helps on slimmer wrists. Setting the local hour is the same as on any 3285 GMT, only mirrored. After a week, most owners stop noticing the difference.
Other directions
If you wear on the left and simply like green, think twice before buying; the crown takes adjusting to. The 126710GRNR offers a green GMT hand in a conventional layout. For gold, the white-gold Sprite 126729VTNR is the obvious upgrade. If you are torn between a GMT and a diver, read our Submariner vs GMT-Master II comparison. Also, the green-bezel Submariner 126610LV is the closest diver alternative in colour.

126720VTNR FAQ
What is the Rolex Sprite?
"Sprite" is the collector nickname for the GMT-Master II 126720VTNR, launched in 2022. The green-and-black bezel recalls the soft-drink can. It is Rolex's first left-handed GMT-Master II, with the crown and date on the 9 o'clock side. Some dealers call it the "Destro" or "Lefty" instead.
Why is the crown on the left on the 126720VTNR?
The mirrored layout is designed for people who wear a watch on the right wrist, often left-handed owners. With the crown at 9, it does not dig into the back of the hand when the wrist bends. Rolex reconfigured calibre 3285 so the date and Cyclops also sit at 9 o'clock.
How much is the 126720VTNR in Malaysia?
Official retail in Malaysia is RM53,400 on the Oyster and RM54,350 on the Jubilee, as of October 2026. Local grey-market asks have sat around RM69,500 to RM72,000. Internationally, excellent sets sell for about US$16,500 to US$19,000, roughly RM67,300 to RM77,500.
Can you wear a left-handed Rolex on the left wrist?
Yes, and some owners do. The crown then faces your forearm rather than your hand, so you wind and set it from the inside. It is slightly less convenient for daily setting, but the case and bezel work exactly the same. Try one on before deciding.
Is the Sprite a good buy compared with the Batman?
It usually costs less pre-owned than the Batman 126710BLNR, despite a higher list price. The narrower buyer pool keeps its premium lower. That is good news if you want one, and less good if you plan to sell quickly.
