Mechanically this is a 126600 in a different suit. The gold changes the weight, the look and the resale curve, but the movement, valve and 1,220 m rating are identical.

History and reference evolution

For its first 52 years, the Sea-Dweller came only in steel. Rolex kept gold for the Submariner, the GMT-Master and the dress models. Then, in 2019, it surprised the trade with the 126603.

A Rolesor diver with no ancestor

The two-tone 126603 took the 43 mm case of the 2017 steel model and added 18 ct yellow gold in three places: the bezel, the crown and the centre bracelet links. The black Cerachrom insert gained gold-coated numerals, and the hands and hour-marker surrounds turned gold as well. Meanwhile, the “SEA-DWELLER” name moved from red to gold print, so the steel model’s signature red line is absent.

Because there was never an earlier two-tone Sea-Dweller, the 126603 has no predecessor to measure against. That matters for value. With most references, a buyer weighs the new model against a cheaper older one. Here, the closest alternatives are the steel 126600 and the two-tone Submariner Date 126613LB, both of which are different watches.

What it shares with the steel model

Under the dial, nothing changed. The calibre 3235 runs with a 70-hour reserve, the helium escape valve sits at 9 o’clock, and the Glidelock clasp adjusts the bracelet without tools. So a watchmaker services it exactly like a 126600. The only extra cost is refinishing gold parts, which needs more care than brushed steel.

Rolex has kept the two-tone 126603 in the catalogue since 2019 with the single dial. As of October 2026 it remains current, listed at US$22,450 in the US and RM97,200 in Malaysia.

What moves the price of this reference

Gold wear. The polished gold centre links take hairline scratches quickly. A light refinish is fine, but deep dents or thinned edges cut the price. Look along the gold bezel edge too, since knocks there are hard to hide.

Paperwork. Gold watches attract more scrutiny, so the warranty card and its date carry real weight. A watch without a card typically sells 8-15% lower. Our box and papers guide shows why.

The gold price. Rolex raises list prices on gold models more often than on steel. When it does, used prices for the two-tone Sea-Dweller tend to follow, though slowly.

A narrow audience. This is the only Rolesor saturation diver, so demand is niche. Therefore, sellers who need a quick sale have to cut deeper than they would on a steel model.

Where to check prices

The Malaysian boutique price of RM97,200 is your ceiling. In practice, few buyers should pay it, since the open market sits so far below. Some retailers also sell Rolex Certified Pre-Owned watches. Those prices run well above the independent market, so you pay for the retailer’s warranty rather than for the watch.

Next, check grey dealers in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, then Chrono24-style listings. For the two-tone 126603, listings are thin, so a single overpriced dealer can skew the average. Read the lower half of the asks instead. Auction results rarely include this model. For broader context, see our used Rolex prices guide.

When a price is too good to be true

Even worn, polished examples without papers rarely sell below about US$13,000. So treat any full set under roughly US$15,000 (about RM61,000) as a warning sign. At that level, ask why. The answer may be a swapped bracelet, missing gold links replaced with steel ones, or a plated replica. Two-tone fakes are common in Southeast Asia, and Mudah listings with stock photos deserve extra caution.

Genuine vs replica: how to check a 126603

Most fake two-tone Rolex watches use gold plating over steel. Therefore, the first test for a two-tone 126603 is the metal itself.

Gold, bezel and dial

Examine the centre links and the clasp edges under a loupe. Solid gold scratches but stays gold all the way through. Plating, by contrast, shows grey steel at worn corners. Then look at the bezel numerals. On a genuine watch, the gold coating sits in the engraved Cerachrom digits and looks crisp and slightly raised in sheen. Painted yellow numerals look flat.

The dial should show gold hands, gold marker surrounds and the model name printed in gold, not red. A red name on a two-tone case means a fake or a mixed-up dial. Also check the clasp. Genuine Rolesor clasps are cleanly machined, with sharp coronet stamping and a smooth Glidelock slide.

Genuine: clasp and bracelet machining

sharp, even edges; deep, clean engraving
  • Crisp transitions between brushed and polished surfaces
  • Clasp blade and logo cleanly milled, not stamped-looking
  • Bracelet links tight, quiet, no rattle; screws not pins on modern pieces

Warning signs

soft edges, wavy or shallow engraving
  • Polishing bleeds over brushed edges
  • Fuzzy logo, uneven font, or stamped-in look
  • Loose links, sharp burrs inside the clasp, cheap spring-loaded feel
A genuine 126603 clasp has crisp edges, clean coronet stamping and a smooth Glidelock. Rough or soft details suggest a fake.

Genuine: laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock

visible only with a loupe at an angle
  • Made of tiny dots, hard to find without a loupe
  • Sits in the crystal just above the 6 o'clock marker
  • Present on most Rolex crystals from the early 2000s onward

Warning signs

obvious to the naked eye
  • Bold and frosted, easy to spot head-on
  • Solid lines instead of a dot matrix
  • Off-centre, or placed on a reference/era that would not have it
Look for the tiny laser-etched coronet at 6 o’clock on the 126603 crystal. It should be faint, not frosted.

Date change and weight

Next, set the date across midnight. The calibre 3235 snaps over instantly. Many clones creep over several minutes instead. Finally, compare the weight with a steel 126600 if you can. The gold parts make a genuine two-tone 126603 noticeably heavier.

Genuine: date change behaviour

22:0000:0002:00instant jump at midnight2827
  • Date snaps over within a minute or two of midnight
  • Hands set back past midnight do not drag the date backwards
  • Quick-set date clicks crisply in crown position 2

Warning signs

22:0000:0002:00slow creep over hours2827
  • Date starts moving around 22:00 and creeps until after midnight
  • Half-turned date visible in the window for hours
  • Quick-set feels gritty or needs several tries
The 126603 date jumps at midnight. A slow, creeping change is a strong replica signal.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

With the caseback off, a watchmaker can confirm the calibre 3235, its engraving and the correct finishing. They can also test the gold content of the centre links and bezel, using an XRF reader or an acid test on a hidden spot. That second check matters more here than on a steel watch. Our real vs fake Rolex guide lists further checks.

Who the 126603 suits, and the alternatives

The Sea-Dweller two-tone 126603 suits a buyer who likes gold but still wants a real tool watch. It also suits someone who enjoys owning a reference few others wear. Because it loses value early, a used one is a sensible way in.

However, it is a large and flashy watch. If you want gold on something smaller, the two-tone Submariner is easier to wear daily. If you love the case but not the gold, the steel Sea-Dweller 126600 costs less and resells better. For full gold and more depth, the Deepsea 136668LB is the extreme option.

126603 FAQ

Why is the two-tone Sea-Dweller cheaper used than new?

Two-tone tool watches have a smaller buyer pool than steel ones. Most Sea-Dweller buyers want a plain steel diver, while most gold buyers want a dress or GMT model. As a result, the 126603 usually trades 15-25% below its US$22,450 list once it leaves the boutique.

Is the gold on the 126603 solid or plated?

It is solid 18 ct yellow gold. The bezel, the winding crown and the centre bracelet links are gold, while the case and outer links are Oystersteel. Rolex calls this mix Yellow Rolesor. Plating on a fake wears through to grey metal; solid gold only scratches.

When did Rolex release the Sea-Dweller 126603?

Rolex unveiled it in 2019 at Baselworld, two years after the steel 126600. It was the first Sea-Dweller in anything other than steel. It has no direct predecessor, so there is no older two-tone Sea-Dweller to compare it with.

How much is the Sea-Dweller 126603 in Malaysia?

Malaysian boutiques list it at RM97,200. Pre-owned full sets in good order tend to sit around RM69,000 to RM80,000, based on US-dollar dealer pricing at 4.08 to the dollar. That gap is one of the widest of any current Rolex sports model.

Does the gold on a two-tone Rolex wear off?

Solid gold does not wear off, but it is softer than steel. So the polished centre links and bezel edge pick up fine scratches faster. A Rolex service can refinish them, though each polish removes a little metal. Light hairlines are normal; deep dents in the centre links lower the price.
