On the Yacht-Master 126655, note the bezel and strap rows first. Unlike the other 40 mm Yacht-Masters, this one has a ceramic bezel insert and no metal bracelet, which changes both its look and how it ages.

History and reference evolution

Gold has always been part of the Yacht-Master story. The very first model in 1992 was yellow gold, and gold versions have run alongside the steel ones ever since. Nevertheless, for two decades those gold watches all wore metal bracelets.

2015: the 116655 and the arrival of Oysterflex

The 116655 broke that pattern in 2015. It was the first Rolex fitted with Oysterflex, a strap Rolex had developed in-house. Inside are flexible metal blades. Meanwhile, the outside is a black elastomer that resists heat, UV and salt water. Rolex paired it with a solid Everose case and a matte black Cerachrom bezel insert with raised polished numerals. As a result, the watch looked sportier than any gold Yacht-Master before it.

After that, the idea spread quickly. Within a few years, Oysterflex appeared on gold Daytonas, the Yacht-Master 42 and later the Sky-Dweller. So this reference is, in effect, where Rolex's modern rubber-strap era began.

2019: the Rolex Yacht-Master 126655

The current reference arrived in 2019. Still, the changes to the Yacht-Master 126655 were evolutionary. Calibre 3235 replaced the 3135, extending the power reserve to 70 hours and adding the Chronergy escapement. The rotor now runs on a ball bearing, which Rolex says winds more efficiently. On the dial, markers and printing were made slightly bolder for legibility. The case, bezel and Oysterflex stayed essentially the same.

2026: gem-set versions dropped, black dial retained

In 2026, Rolex trimmed the Everose Yacht-Master line by removing the gem-set and paved-dial versions. Several reports simplified this into “the 126655 is discontinued”. However, the standard black-dial 126655 remains in the 2026 price list, and Malaysian retailers still quote it at RM163,300. For buyers, this matters. A retained model carries no discontinuation premium, so do not pay extra on that basis.

The Yacht-Master 126655 shows the widest gap to retail among the 40 mm Yacht-Masters. Rolex lists it at US$37,700 in the US and RM163,300 in Malaysia. By contrast, excellent full sets change hands at US$26,000 – US$30,000. That is a discount of roughly US$8,000 to US$11,000, or more than RM30,000.

Price drivers for the 126655

  • Oysterflex condition. A cracked, stretched or heavily scuffed strap needs replacing, and an official Oysterflex is not cheap. So check the strap closely and price a replacement into your offer if needed.
  • Full set. Box, card and tags add the usual 8 to 15%. On a gold watch, that can be several thousand US dollars. Our box and papers guide covers what to look for.
  • Case polishing. Everose is soft. Each polish removes gold and rounds the lug edges, which collectors notice. An unpolished case therefore commands a clear premium.
  • The discount to retail. This works for the buyer. Because new pieces are obtainable, used prices stay anchored well below list.

Where to compare prices

For a Yacht-Master 126655, begin with the boutique price, then compare grey dealers and marketplaces. In Kuala Lumpur, an authorised retailer can usually order this reference, so you are not chasing scarcity. Grey dealers in Malaysia and Singapore tend to price around the international secondary market. Chrono24-style listings help to set a range, but treat them as asking prices. Our used Rolex price guide shows how we turn asks and sales into bands.

Red-flag pricing

Be wary of any Yacht-Master 126655 full set offered for less than about US$21,000 (roughly RM86,000). That sits below the bottom of the genuine no-papers band. At that price, the likely explanations are a replica, a gold-plated case, a non-original strap or a watch with a problem title.

Genuine vs replica: how to check a 126655

Solid gold is the counterfeiter's biggest hurdle here. As a result, most fakes of the Yacht-Master 126655 use plated steel cases and plain rubber straps. The general method is in our real vs fake Rolex guide; here we focus on what is specific to this watch.

The Oysterflex test

First, hold the watch by the case and let the strap hang. A genuine Oysterflex holds a gentle curve, because the metal blades inside resist bending sideways. A plain rubber copy flops like a band. Then look at the inside of the 126655 Yacht-Master strap. Rolex moulds longitudinal cushions along the underside of the strap, and their edges are clean and even. Finally, check the Everose Oysterlock clasp. It should be crisply machined, with sharp engraving and a positive snap.

Case, bezel and dial

Generally, an Everose case feels dense. Moreover, the colour should be consistent across case, crown and clasp. Any yellow or grey showing on the lug edges points to plating. The matte black Cerachrom insert should have an even, non-reflective surface. Its numerals are raised and polished, so they catch the light from the side. Printed or flat numerals are a giveaway.

Genuine: bezel action and alignment

120 clicks
  • Divers' bezels: 120 firm, evenly spaced clicks, one direction only
  • Pearl or triangle lands exactly on 12 at every full click
  • No back-play or wobble when pressed

Warning signs

60 clicks
  • Fewer or mushy clicks, or it turns both ways
  • Triangle stops just short of or past 12
  • Gritty feel and a hollow, high-pitched sound
The 126655 bezel uses a matte black ceramic insert with raised polished numerals and should click firmly in both directions.

Genuine: caseback

plain, fluted screw-down back
  • Solid Oystersteel or gold, fluted edge for the case wrench
  • No engraving on most models (some are factory-engraved, e.g. Sea-Dweller and Deepsea)
  • Display backs are factory-fitted only on certain models (e.g. some Daytona, 1908, Land-Dweller)

Warning signs

see-through or engraved back
  • Exhibition window on a model Rolex makes with a solid back
  • Stickers or decorative engravings sold as 'factory'
  • Back that turns too easily or sits proud of the case
The 126655 has a plain screw-down solid caseback; Rolex does not fit a display back to this reference.

Also check the usual Rolex markers on the Yacht-Master 126655. Rolex's laser-etched crown sits in the crystal at 6 o'clock, and the rehaut carries the serial number. Under the Cyclops, the date should appear roughly two and a half times larger. At night, the hands and markers should glow an even blue.

Genuine: lume colour and application

even blue Chromalight glow
  • Modern pieces glow blue (Chromalight) and stay bright for hours
  • Every marker and hand glows at the same intensity
  • Lume plots filled neatly to the edge of the surround

Warning signs

patchy, mismatched green glow
  • Green or mixed-colour glow on a modern reference
  • Hands and markers fade at different rates
  • Overfilled or thin, lumpy plots under a loupe
On a genuine 126655, the hands and hour markers glow evenly blue with no patchy or green-tinted plots.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

Once the back is off, a watchmaker will look for the hallmarks of calibre 3235, including the bearing-mounted rotor and the Chronergy escapement. Next, they can confirm that the case metal is solid 18k gold using a non-destructive XRF reading. In addition, they can check that the dial, hands and bezel insert are original. Replacement parts are common on watches that have been repaired outside the Rolex network.

Who the 126655 suits, and the alternatives

The Yacht-Master 126655 suits someone who wants a solid gold Rolex that feels casual. Thanks to the Oysterflex, it is comfortable in heat and humidity, and it shrugs off a swim. It also suits a patient pre-owned buyer, because the discount to list is large. The 40 mm Everose case suits wrists of roughly 16 to 19 cm (6.3 to 7.5 inches).

Living with Oysterflex and Everose

Ownership is simpler than the price suggests. Rinse the strap in fresh water after the sea or a pool, and clean sunscreen out from between the cushions now and then. Over years, the elastomer can pick up scuffs, and Rolex can fit a new strap at service. However, gold cases need more thought at service time. By default, a service may include refinishing, and every pass removes some Everose. So if you care about resale, ask the service centre to leave the case unpolished. Our Rolex service and value guide explains how servicing affects price.

Alternatives to the 126655

This Everose watch is not for someone who wants gold to be discreet. For that, the white gold Yacht-Master 42 226659 is the obvious alternative. If you like Everose but want a bracelet and a lower price, try the two-tone Yacht-Master 126621. For a chronograph on the same strap, the Daytona 126515LN in Everose is the step up. 126655 FAQ

Has the Rolex Yacht-Master 126655 been discontinued?

Not the standard model. In 2026, Rolex dropped the gem-set Everose Yacht-Masters, including the paved-dial versions. The plain black-dial 126655 remains in the 2026 price list, and Malaysian authorised retailers still quote RM163,300 for it in October 2026. Some articles report the whole reference as discontinued, so check the dial variant when you read such claims.

Is Oysterflex just a rubber strap?

No. Oysterflex has flexible metal blades inside, over-moulded with a high-performance black elastomer. The blades give it the shape-holding feel of a bracelet. On the inside, longitudinal cushions keep it off the skin and help air circulate. It is far more durable than ordinary rubber, but it is still a wear item. Our bracelets and clasps guide explains the construction.

Why is the 126655 so far below retail pre-owned?

Solid-gold Rolex sports watches on straps have a narrow buyer pool, and authorised retailers can usually supply them. With no queue to skip, the market prices them on desirability alone. In October 2026, excellent full sets trade around US$26,000 to US$30,000 against a US$37,700 list. For a wearer, that discount is the main reason to buy pre-owned.

Is the Yacht-Master 126655 comfortable in hot weather?

It is one of the better Rolex choices for Malaysian heat. The Oysterflex does not trap sweat the way a leather strap does, and it can be rinsed in fresh water. The cushions on the inside also reduce contact. However, solid gold makes the case heavier than steel, so it feels dense despite the light strap.

What is the difference between the 126655 and the 116655?

The 116655 launched in 2015 with calibre 3135 and introduced Oysterflex to the Yacht-Master. The 126655 replaced it in 2019, adding calibre 3235 with 70 hours of reserve and a slightly bolder dial. Both share the Everose case and matte black ceramic bezel. Because they look similar, check the reference between the lugs and on the warranty card.

Should I buy a 126655 or a white gold Yacht-Master 42?

The 126655 is 40 mm, warmer in colour and noticeably cheaper on both list and pre-owned prices. The Yacht-Master 42 226659 is larger, in discreet white gold, and suits bigger wrists. Both use Oysterflex and calibre 3235. Choose by wrist size and whether you want the gold to show.
