Rolex Daytona White Gold 126509

Rolex Daytona white gold 126509 specifications

Read the table with one point in mind: every exterior part of the white gold Daytona 126509 is 18 kt gold. That is why it costs several times more than the steel model while looking almost the same.

History and reference evolution

In the calibre 4130 era, the white-gold Daytona on a bracelet was the 116509. It became a quiet favourite among collectors, partly because it offered dials the steel watch never had, meteorite among them. Its appeal was simple. It looked like a steel Daytona but was easier to buy at a boutique.

From 116509 to 126509

The 126509 replaced it at Watches & Wonders 2023, alongside the rest of the 60th-anniversary range. The new calibre 4131 adds the Chronergy escapement and Côtes de Genève finishing, with a reserve listed at 72 hours. Outside, Rolex refined the case lines and slimmed the counter rings so they contrast more with the dial.

Why the bezel became a tell

One change elsewhere in the range matters for this watch. Since 2016, the steel Daytona has used a black ceramic bezel. As a result, in the 4131 generation, a Daytona with a metal bezel that looks like steel should be white gold. The 126509 keeps an engraved white-gold tachymeter bezel, so there is no ceramic and no thin metal edge.

Dials in the 2026 catalogue

Rolex lists three non-gem dials in October 2026. The -0001 is bright black with steel-coloured counters. The -0003 reverses this, with a steel-coloured dial and bright black counters. Finally, the -0005 is a deep bright blue with matching counters. Because the blue and steel dials ask more, they also matter most for resale.

Bands reflect asking and achieved prices from 3 public market sources in October 2026, rounded. Retail for comparison: US$59,100. Prices move; use them as a sense-check, not a quote.

The US list price is US$59,100, and Malaysian retail is RM256,200. In October 2026, dealers ask about US$52,300 to US$65,900, with blue and steel dials at the top. In short, this white gold Daytona trades around list, and a used piece can sometimes undercut a new one.

What moves the price of this reference

Dial sets the starting point. On the Daytona 126509, bright blue and the steel-coloured -0003 ask more than black. Gem-set dials sit in a separate market, so leave them out of comparisons.

Next, verify the metal itself. White gold resembles steel, and some buyers have paid gold prices for the wrong watch. A seller who welcomes a metal test usually gets a better price. Finally, a complete set and an unpolished case and bracelet both add value. Our box and papers guide shows how missing items affect resale.

Where to check prices

Because the market sits near list, the boutique price is a useful ceiling. Grey dealers give the clearest picture, as long as you compare the same dial code. Marketplace listings are noisier, so ignore stale ads and gem-set pieces. Auction results for the 126509 are thin so far. For a general method, use our used Rolex prices guide.

Malaysian buyers should note that local listings sometimes describe a white-gold Daytona simply as "silver". Therefore, always ask for the reference, the dial code and photos between the lugs. Then convert ringgit quotes at about 4.08 so you can compare them with US dealer prices.

When a price is too good to be true

The polished or no-papers band starts around US$43,000. So any white gold Daytona 126509 with box and card offered under about US$46,000 (roughly RM188,000) needs a hard look. The usual explanation is a steel watch, a fake or a theft.

Genuine vs replica: how to check a 126509

This reference has an unusual risk. Besides outright fakes, a buyer can be offered a genuine steel Daytona presented as white gold. Both the 116500LN and the 126500LN have ceramic bezels. So the confusion usually involves the older steel 116520, which had a metal bezel. Its reference between the lugs gives it away, but prove the metal anyway.

Metal and weight

White gold is roughly twice as dense as steel, so a genuine 126509 feels much heavier in the hand. Compare it with a steel 126500LN if you can. Also look for Swiss gold hallmarks on the case and clasp. An XRF test gives a definite answer in under a minute.

Genuine: caseback

plain, fluted screw-down back
  • Solid Oystersteel or gold, fluted edge for the case wrench
  • No engraving on most models (some are factory-engraved, e.g. Sea-Dweller and Deepsea)
  • Display backs are factory-fitted only on certain models (e.g. some Daytona, 1908, Land-Dweller)

Warning signs

see-through or engraved back
  • Exhibition window on a model Rolex makes with a solid back
  • Stickers or decorative engravings sold as 'factory'
  • Back that turns too easily or sits proud of the case
The 126509 has a solid, unengraved caseback; a display window on this reference is not original.

Dial, bezel and engravings

The tachymeter should be engraved into the white-gold bezel with clean, deep strokes. On the -0005, the blue is a deep sunray that brightens as you tilt the watch. Then check the reference between the lugs at 12 and the serial at 6. The warranty card must read 126509.

Genuine: laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock

visible only with a loupe at an angle
  • Made of tiny dots, hard to find without a loupe
  • Sits in the crystal just above the 6 o'clock marker
  • Present on most Rolex crystals from the early 2000s onward

Warning signs

obvious to the naked eye
  • Bold and frosted, easy to spot head-on
  • Solid lines instead of a dot matrix
  • Off-centre, or placed on a reference/era that would not have it
The laser-etched coronet in the 126509's crystal sits just above 6 o'clock and appears only at an angle.

Crown, pushers and movement feel

The Triplock crown shows three marks under the coronet, and both pushers screw down firmly. Start the chronograph and the central hand should move smoothly. The running seconds at 6 should also sweep in fine steps.

Genuine: seconds-hand sweep

8 steps per second(one second, magnified)
  • 28,800 vph: eight small steps per second, reads as a smooth glide on video
  • Steady amplitude, no stutter when the watch is tilted
  • A quiet, fine-grained ticking close to the ear

Warning signs

4 steps per second(one second, magnified)
  • Visibly choppier steps (often 21,600 vph or slower)
  • A single one-second tick means a quartz movement
  • Loud, rattly rotor noise when the watch is shaken
Calibre 4131 in the 126509 beats at 28,800 vph; the small seconds at 6 should glide, not tick once per second.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

A watchmaker can open the caseback and confirm calibre 4131 markings, the Chronergy escapement, the blue Parachrom hairspring and Côtes de Genève bridges. They can also check that case, bezel and bracelet are all gold, since mixed parts do occur. In Kuala Lumpur, the Rolex service centre or a trusted independent can do this before you pay.

Who the 126509 suits, and the alternatives

This watch is for someone who wants precious metal without announcing it. To most people it reads as a steel Daytona. The owner, though, notices the weight and the richer finish every day. It also suits buyers who would rather pay list for gold than a large premium for steel.

If you prefer a strap, the 126519LN puts white gold on Oysterflex with a ceramic bezel. For the ultimate stealth option, the platinum 126506 costs far more but adds the ice-blue dial. Alternatively, the yellow-gold 126508 trades at a similar level with a warmer look.

126509 FAQ

How can you tell a white gold Daytona from a steel one?

In the current generation, the quickest clue is the bezel. The steel 126500LN has a black ceramic bezel, while the 126509 has an engraved white-gold bezel. Beyond that, the white-gold watch is much heavier, carries gold hallmarks and shows 126509 between the lugs at 12.

How much is the Rolex Daytona 126509 in Malaysia?

Rolex lists it at RM256,200 in Malaysia and US$59,100 in the US. A pre-owned full set in excellent condition asks around US$55,000 to US$63,000 in October 2026, or roughly RM224,000 to RM257,000. So a good used example can cost slightly less than retail.

Which 126509 dial is the most valuable?

The bright blue -0005 and the steel-coloured -0003, which some dealers call the Ghost, ask the most. The bright black -0001 usually sits lower. In practice, condition and a complete set can close much of that gap, so compare like with like.

Is the white gold Daytona worth it over steel?

It depends on what you value. The steel 126500LN costs far less at retail but trades well above list. By contrast, the 126509 costs more up front but sells near list, so you pay little premium. Our steel vs gold comparison works through the numbers.

Does the white gold bracelet on the 126509 scratch easily?

Yes, more than steel. 18 kt white gold is softer, so the polished centre links and clasp pick up marks quickly. Most scratches are cosmetic and can be refinished at service. However, every polish removes metal, so avoid heavy refinishing on a watch you may sell.
