On paper, the Sky-Dweller 336938 shares its movement and case size with every sibling. In the hand, however, the solid yellow gold changes everything: weight, colour and how the watch is priced.

History and reference evolution

Yellow gold is where the Sky-Dweller started. When Rolex unveiled the model in 2012, the yellow gold 326938 on a matching Oyster bracelet was the version most people pictured. It introduced the Saros annual calendar, the off-centre 24-hour disc and the Ring Command bezel to Rolex's dress-watch range.

Ten years of the 326938

Throughout the 9001 era, the 326938 stayed close to its original design. Champagne, black and white dials were the core choices. Meanwhile, the Rolesor models launched in 2017 took most of the volume, so the gold version remained a smaller, more specialised watch.

2023 and the green dial

The Sky-Dweller 336938 replaced it in 2023 with calibre 9002. That movement adds the Chronergy escapement and keeps the 72-hour reserve, so ownership feels the same day to day. Meanwhile, the outer case carried over.

The bigger news came in 2025, when Rolex introduced a bright green dial. Green on yellow gold also has a long history at Rolex. As a result, the new dial drew immediate demand and now leads the reference's pricing.

Champagne or green?

The two dials suit different owners. Champagne turns the watch into one continuous block of yellow, the traditional Rolex gold look that many Malaysian buyers associate with success. Green, by contrast, breaks up the gold and reads as a modern colour choice. It also carries the market premium. However, champagne examples are easier to find in good condition and usually cost less, so they are the sensible choice for a buyer who simply wants a gold Sky-Dweller to wear.

What the changes mean for value

A 326938 and a 336938 with the same dial look almost identical. So the older watch trades lower mainly because of age and service due. On a solid gold complication, that service is a real cost. However, no 326938 has the 2025 green dial, so that version has no cheaper equivalent. See our service and value guide before you choose.

Bands reflect asking and achieved prices from 2 public market sources in October 2026, rounded. Retail for comparison: US$60,100. Prices move; use them as a sense-check, not a quote.

Our dataset lists the Sky-Dweller 336938 at US$60,100 in the US. We could not confirm that figure in US authorised-retailer listings, so treat it as indicative. In Malaysia, the Jubilee version lists at RM266,000. Excellent full sets trade for US$59,000 – US$65,000. WatchCharts' October 2026 average was about US$63,500. In practice, the average is lifted by green dials; standard dials trade nearer list.

Why the US list price is uncertain

Our figure of US$60,100 comes from a 2026 buying guide. In October 2026 we checked US authorised-retailer feeds and could not find it published. Rolex also changes gold prices more often than steel ones, because they follow the metal. So, in practice, the most reliable anchor for Malaysian buyers is the RM266,000 Jubilee list from local retailers. Use the US number only as a rough guide to the premium or discount.

What moves the price of this reference

Six things move the price of a Sky-Dweller 336938, and the first two dominate.

  • Green dial. The 2025 bright green asks the most, often above list.
  • Bracelet versus strap. The Oysterflex 336238 lists at about US$51,400 and sells lower. Confirm which you are being offered.
  • Other dials. Champagne is the most traditional and resells easily. Black and white trade close to it.
  • Bezel and case condition. Yellow gold scratches and dents readily. Polished flutes and soft lug edges cut value.
  • Bracelet wear. A gold bracelet stretches at the pins. A tight bracelet suggests careful ownership.
  • Full set. A complete box, card and tags is worth roughly an eighth more than a bare watch. See what a full set includes.

Where to check prices

First, get a ringgit quote from a Malaysian boutique. For standard dials, waits are usually manageable. Then compare dealers in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, who price off the US market. Because few gold Sky-Dwellers change hands, local classifieds show only a handful of listings, and asking prices vary widely. Auction results are a helpful sanity check for older 326938 examples. For our method, see the used Rolex price guide.

When a price is too good to be true

Treat any Sky-Dweller 336938 full set offered below about US$46,000 (roughly RM188,000) with deep suspicion. Even a genuine watch without papers rarely sells that low. Also watch out for a 336238 described as a 336938. The strap version is legitimately cheaper, so the price may look like a bargain when it is not.

Genuine vs replica: how to check a 336938

With a solid gold watch, the forger's first saving is the gold. So weight and colour come first, then function. Our real vs fake Rolex guide sets out the full process.

Feel and finish

The Sky-Dweller 336938 on a gold bracelet is heavy, clearly more so than the two-tone. Also, the gold should look even in colour across bezel, case and links. Plated replicas tend to look brassy and often show wear at the edges. Between the lugs, the reference and gold hallmarks should be sharp.

Seconds hand and calendar

Watch the seconds hand. Calibre 9002 beats at 28,800 vibrations an hour, so the sweep looks smooth with tiny steps. A jerky tick suggests quartz or a cheap movement. Next, test the calendar with the bezel in its first position. The red month marker in the apertures should advance at the end of each month.

Genuine: seconds-hand sweep

8 steps per second(one second, magnified)
  • 28,800 vph: eight small steps per second, reads as a smooth glide on video
  • Steady amplitude, no stutter when the watch is tilted
  • A quiet, fine-grained ticking close to the ear

Warning signs

4 steps per second(one second, magnified)
  • Visibly choppier steps (often 21,600 vph or slower)
  • A single one-second tick means a quartz movement
  • Loud, rattly rotor noise when the watch is shaken
A genuine 336938 shows a smooth, finely stepped seconds sweep from calibre 9002.

Crystal and clasp

The laser-etched coronet sits in the crystal just above 6 o'clock. It is tiny and needs a loupe. On the bracelet, the Oysterclasp should close firmly with crisp engravings, and the Easylink should open smoothly. Also check the rehaut for the serial at 6, and note that the caseback is plain and solid.

Genuine: laser-etched crown at 6 o'clock

visible only with a loupe at an angle
  • Made of tiny dots, hard to find without a loupe
  • Sits in the crystal just above the 6 o'clock marker
  • Present on most Rolex crystals from the early 2000s onward

Warning signs

obvious to the naked eye
  • Bold and frosted, easy to spot head-on
  • Solid lines instead of a dot matrix
  • Off-centre, or placed on a reference/era that would not have it
The 336938 crystal carries a small laser-etched coronet above 6 o'clock, visible only under magnification.

Genuine: clasp and bracelet machining

sharp, even edges; deep, clean engraving
  • Crisp transitions between brushed and polished surfaces
  • Clasp blade and logo cleanly milled, not stamped-looking
  • Bracelet links tight, quiet, no rattle; screws not pins on modern pieces

Warning signs

soft edges, wavy or shallow engraving
  • Polishing bleeds over brushed edges
  • Fuzzy logo, uneven font, or stamped-in look
  • Loose links, sharp burrs inside the clasp, cheap spring-loaded feel
On a genuine 336938 the yellow gold Oysterclasp shows sharp engravings and a precise Easylink extension.

What only a watchmaker can confirm

An opened case tells the truth. Under the caseback, a watchmaker looks for calibre 9002 markings, Chronergy escape parts, a blue Parachrom hairspring and the Saros wheels. They can also confirm that the dial is original, which matters for a green version. A gold test proves the case and bracelet are solid. Keep the inspection receipt with the papers, because it helps when you sell. So ask the seller to agree to an inspection by an independent watchmaker of your choosing; a refusal tells you plenty.

Who the 336938 suits, and the alternatives

The Sky-Dweller 336938 suits someone who wants a gold Rolex with a practical travel function and likes traditional yellow gold. It also suits collectors who want the green dial in a less formal watch than a Day-Date. Because it is 42 mm and heavy, it is happiest on a wrist of 7 inches (about 18 cm) or more. Owners who wear it daily in Malaysian heat often choose the Jubilee, because its smaller links follow the wrist more closely than the Oyster. Either way, the 5 mm Easylink is worth using on hot afternoons, since wrists swell through the day.

If you prefer a classic dress layout, the yellow gold Day-Date 40 228238 is the obvious rival, and it lists lower. The Sky-Dweller vs Day-Date comparison explains the trade-off. For the same look in steel with gold, the two-tone Sky-Dweller 336933 costs a fraction of the price. For pink gold, see the Everose Sky-Dweller 336935. 336938 FAQ

How much is the Rolex Sky-Dweller 336938 in Malaysia?

The Jubilee-bracelet 336938 lists at RM266,000 as of October 2026, confirmed at Cortina Watch and The Hour Glass. Pre-owned excellent full sets convert to roughly RM241,000 to RM265,000. However, the green dial often asks more than list, so the saving applies mainly to champagne, black and white dials.

What is the US retail price of the 336938?

Our dataset carries US$60,100, taken from a 2026 buying guide. We could not confirm that figure in US authorised-retailer listings in October 2026, so treat it as indicative. Ask a boutique for a current quote, because Rolex adjusts gold prices more often than steel ones.

Is the green dial Sky-Dweller 336938 worth the premium?

For resale, it has been the strongest version since Rolex added it in 2025. It is also the most distinctive. That said, premiums on new dials tend to narrow as supply catches up. If you want it for the colour, buy it. If you are buying mainly to sell later, the risk sits with you.

What is the 336238?

The 336238 is the same yellow gold Sky-Dweller head on an Oysterflex strap instead of a gold bracelet. It lists for about US$51,400 in our data, well below the bracelet version, and it is lighter. Wearers in hot, humid climates such as Malaysia often find the strap more comfortable day to day.

Is the yellow gold Sky-Dweller too flashy?

It is a bold watch: 42 mm of solid gold with a fluted bezel. The champagne dial makes it read as one gold block, which some buyers love. A black or green dial breaks it up and looks more modern. If you want gold that stays quieter, look at the Oysterflex 336238 or a white gold model.

What changed from the 326938 to the 336938?

The movement. The 326938 used calibre 9001, whereas the Sky-Dweller 336938 uses calibre 9002 with the Chronergy escapement, introduced in 2023. Power reserve stays at about 72 hours. The case and dial layout are effectively the same. The bright green dial, added in 2025, is exclusive to the newer reference.
